There are no laws or regulations that require HPV testing. Individual clinics or doctors may have policies, but in most cases the doctor has the discretion to order or not order HPV testing or any other lab test. But why would you avoid it? If positive for HPV, particularly with a high risk (cancer causing) HPV type, you should know it -- especially if the Pap smear is otherwise abnormal.
