Classic sciatica caused by a bulging intervertebral disc or a spur pressing on a nerve root in the lower spine causes pain in the buttock& down the back of the leg. I've never seen it but it can cause pain in the shin area. Has the orthopedic surgeon or a neurologist determined that you,in fact, have sciatica & not symptoms from rehabbing from hip replacement? The majority of disc problems subside

A common cause for sciatica is a limb length difference. The surgery might have created a difference need standing X-rays to determine if a lift is needed on other extremity.
