If you kiss anyone while cold sore[ HSV-1] is active you will pass it on to them and the virus remains in their body for ever. Not everyone infected will show symptoms. but the virus can remain dormant and flair up any at any time. Since you have had this virus for years and never kissed them while active, than no transfer ever occurred. Now you must tell your family of the possible consequences.
