Likely arthritis: A pain that has lasted for 15 years without causing any other serious symptoms is not life threatening. If pain radiates to arm it indicates pinching of nerve. Osteoarthritis, also called degenerative disease , is most common cause of neck pain.

Ask for Referral: If pain has been present for 15 years i would suggest asking for a referral to a spine or pain specialist for a thorough evaluation.

See specialist: And get imaging done (even if just an xray). Pain that lasts that long that does not progress could be old injury, arthritis or a number of things. Physical exam is very important in this case as well.Imaging should be done to define an effective treatment plan. See a pain/spine physician, physiatrist, ortho or someone experienced in diagnosing back/neck pain.
