Yes. You may have a sprain or ligament rupture. Ice and elevation is the immediate treatment and call your doctor for evaluation the next day. No need to go to the ER unless the pain became unbearable with swelling of the knee due to bleeding. Then an aspiration of the joint will relieve the pain
