My three year old started antibiotics sunday night for strep. he still has a fever that comes and goes and is in quite a bit of pain. his throat doesnt look any better. at what point do i seek help for a different antibiotic? thanks?

If the fever continues beyond 3 days or if there are problems breathing, please follow up right away. Penicillins are the first line of treatment. Watch for signs of shortness of breath, worsening cough and dehydration. Complete the current course of the medication. A virtual consult with Healthtap is also available.

Agree with Dr Dosanjh but there also may be a viral illness at the same time as the strep and that may be why he's not improving on an antibiotic...so he may not need a change of an antibiotic, but a longer time. So please contact his doctor if not improving. I'm also not sure from your question when the antibiotic was started.
