A member asked:

I am on estarylla (combination oral birth control) and was just prescribed augmentin for strep throat. will this medication make my birth control less effective?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Many things are possible in life. That said, birth control pill hormones should still be effective. Amoxicillin, Augmentin, Zithromax, and other commonly-used antibiotics do not have a noticeable effect on the workings of hormonal contraceptives such as combination oral birth control pills. The antibiotic Rifampin is not commonly used, but may have an effect on hormonal contraceptives.
