A member asked:

Can diabetic peripheral neuropathy present in patients with a controlled (less than 6.5%) hemoglobin a1c level? if so, is the likelihood of occurrence and prognosis different from a patient with an uncontrolled a1c level?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Peripheral neuropathy can occur in pre-diabetes, mild early diabetes type II, and especially poorly controlled diabetes. Keeping blood glucose under tight control can be very helpful in preventing the worsening of peripheral nerve problems.
