Obtain a second opinion at a the department of gastroenterology at a university hospital near you to determine the cause of the pancreatic insufficiency and the best treatment. Resultant intestinal malabsorption explains poor weight gain and failure to thrive.

A sweat test may be helpful since the CF panel only screens for a certain number of defects associated with CF. Watch for signs of shortness of breath and please follow up with your physician. A nutrition consult is also recommended.
