Would sepsis always have moderate to severe symptoms enough to be concerned for or can it be asymptomatic?

Sepsis is defined as life threatening and cannot be asymptomatic. (There are many infections in which bacteria circulate in the blood for either brief or long periods (sometimes year. By definition, those conditions are not sepsis.)

Sepsis is not asymptomatic. The person has fever, weakness, and depending on the site of infection, symptoms related to the organ system that is affected.

Sepsis is a serious medical condition which is never asymptomatic. It is considered an emergency and if you feel that you are having symptoms of fever, lightheadedness, or low blood pressure consistent with sepsis, you should go to the emergency room.

While we old timers used the noun, sepsis as meaning infection, the new definition is as described by Dr. S and refers to bacteremia ( blood poisoning) and hypotension, among other symptoms & is a true medical emergency.
