The initial response to scabies is often triggered by localized skin reaction to the mite and focal skin irritation. Over time, the body develops a serum allergic response to the poop in the mite burrows which can last for weeks after all the mites are dead. Eventually this serum response, that can trigger hives over the whole body will fade. Duration depends on the degree of the initial infection
