Strongly recommend a visit to an Orthopedic Surgeon. Suspect you have a torn meniscus, as one possibility. Not feasible to project the need for surgery versus conservative injections or physical therapy, in absence of direct examination.

An orthopedic surgeon would be seen for diagnosis and treatment. Stretching any strengthening the muscle around the knee can provide some stability. Thus should be your first consideration given your history. A physical therapist can structure a program for you. If this fails other more aggressive treatments can be tried.
