The mRNA based primary and booster covid vaccines appear to give a transient protection that can wane 6-8 months after administration. Breakthrough infections in fully immunized persons are common but symptoms less intense. Boosters have been modified but need in the face of new weakened strains is an individual choice.

The Omicron booster is recommended although you can probably wait a few weeks since you just had COVID-19.You will not know what variant you had...could be BA.4 or 5, which are still predominant, but you may also have had one of the newer variants. If you're not sure, best to speak to your doctor. We know that it is not uncommon to have COVID-19 despite vaccination, especially when yours was long ago.
