I am so worried. i used a syringe with sink water on my 1 year old to help clear out his nose. is he at risk for anything such as brain-eating amoeba? i do live in tx?

I would worry less about a rare parasite that in not found in city water supplies and more about the trauma you do to the nose. The tissue & capillaries inside the nose are sensitive and tap water is not balanced in a way it won't irritate. There are many cheap over the counter nasal saline washes that can do this without causing problems.

I agree over the counter saline for infants and gentle suction is often effective in removal of secretions. Watch for signs of green discharge and cough. Monitor temperature and breathing, and encourage fluids. Keep vaccinations updated.
