Given that a stable healthy mother is paramount in carrying a pregnancy to term and rearing a healthy infant, staying on a successful drug is a worthy investment. A common cited incidence of 4% unexpected outcome for any pregnancy is a baseline including premi/sick/etc.

Teratogenic side effects from Keppra are uncommon and typically affect a baby within the first 6 weeks of pregnancy. Do not independently stop your medication. Discuss your concerns with your obstetrician.

Keppra appears to be safer than some of the other medications for epilepsy, but drug information sources effectively say that the answer is unknown (“fetal risk cannot be ruled out”), so the jury is out. The decision to continue Keppra versus switch to another medication will be one that you have to decide with your doctor after considering the risks and benefits of continuing the medication.
