A member asked:

Can gerd really give you swallowing difficulty sometimes? i talked to my ent about this before where i sometimes can't swallow randomly, but he just keeps saying it's a gerd symptom, but how can it give you trouble swallowing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

GERD by definition is a disorder triggered by backwash of stomach acid that irritates the swallow tube any point from the stomach entrance to the back of the tongue. Sores created in the swallow tube will occasionally cause spasms of the swallowing muscles.
