The best antibiotic choice depends on what bacteria is causing the pneumonia in the first place. Not all pneumonias are caused by the same bacteria, therefore, different types may be best treated by different antibiotics. Other things that doctors must take into account when prescribing antibiotics are side effects and drug allergies; there is not one antibiotic that’s best for all people.
