A member asked:

I'm a 24yo, 128lbs female. i exercise 45-90 minutes/day and eat a high protein(~200g/day) and high fiber(~50g/day) diet. my recent metabolic panel reports high bun(24), high bun/creatinine ratio(28) and high alt(35). could this be from high protein?

Yes, a high protein diet will increase your BUN with the same kidney function. Dehydration, or being behind in your fluids, is the other usual cause of an elevation of the BUN.

It could. A young person like you does not need a high protein diet. Eat a normal healthy meal. Repeat tests in 3 months. You'll be fine
