A member asked:

Last period was aug 25th! been 4 weeks and 2 days since last sex encounter. did a blood hcg test yesterday and came back negative. the level was <1 so it was below 5. is it accurate enough to rule out pregnancy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A home pregnancy test is accurate if the reading is "below 5". The extended time before your period may be due to delayed ovulation, which post-pones the onset of the next menstrual event. This can happen with increase stress (emotional, school, work, etc.). See your GYN physician if this continues, for additional testing (ultrasound).
