A member asked:

What is the prognosis for dropped head syndrome (head ptosis)? does it get progressively worse over time with advancing age and create a worsening hunchbacked appearance?

Dropped head syndrome (DHS) is an uncommon disorder with severe weakness of the neck muscles (extensors) holding up the head. The prognosis will depend on the cause. If it is caused by ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig disease) it will be progressive. Prognosis for isolated weakness of just the neck muscles may be better, depending on the cause.
