My adult daughter has a swollen gland that is not painful on one side of her throat, no actual sore throat tho, for the last day, and is thinking the worst. what type of things could cause this swelling?

By far the most common explanation is a minor infection of some sort. But if it persists more than a couple of weeks, she should see a doctor.
