sharp, fleeting pain in the chest or upper back, especially if provoked by a deep breath or certain motions, is often caused by a pinched intercostal nerve or muscle that runs between 2 ribs. Your episode occurred while quiet though. Nevertheless that pain was so fleeting, didn't recur& I feel it was not a serious issue. Costochondritis has pinpoint tenderness at rib-sternum junction. ?See MD again
