The answer varies a lot, depending on the route (IV or oral), acute or chronic replacement and the drug formula, i.e magnesium sulfate, citrate, oxide, etc and body size. In acute sitting, 1,000 mg or 1 gm of magnesium sulfate IV is more than enough to bring level from 0.7 to 0.8 mmol/L in most cases.
