The correct position to check blood pressure is sitting with the arm relaxed/supported at the heart level. Even more important is allowing for time from previous activities ( at least 5 ) as blood pressure continues to settle for minutes after activities.

Rest your forearm on the back of chair or shelf so that the center of the cuff (1/2 way between the top and bottom of cuff) is at your heart level-mid sternum. For every inch above heart level pressure will read 2 mm Hg lower. If lower than heart level every in increased BP by 2 mm Hg. This is because of hydrostatic pressure. Google it and learn more. May your pressure be accurate!
