A member asked:

Very good morning doctors. i get occasional constipation and typically take miralax as needed. i ran out of miralax....can i take either dulcolax tablets or citrate of magnesium instead, or are they too strong?

They work by a different mechanism. The MiraLAX binds to water and prevents its extraction by the large bowel, leading to softer stools. The other meds act as stimulants pushing stool along. Use what you wish, but many do better staying with one product than switching.
