Each office practices differently so it's hard to give you a one fits all answer. You should not be fearful. Here's more info than I can fit into a 400 character answer: https://www.aae.org/patients/root-canal-treatment/

Your anxiety is seated in lack of knowledge. I commend you for seeking additional information. A. About an hour each visit. B. Usually 1 or 2 visits depending on complexity. C. You will be numbed up, so no pain. Perhaps some soreness post-procedure. D. I'm a firm believer non specialists. You may want to see an Endodontist who is best trained and experienced in root canal treatment.
