A member asked:

If lidocaine half life is 1.5-2 hours then why is the duration of action only 10-20 minutes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Half-life describes the elimination of the drug from the body as a whole. A focal injection of lidocaine at one location begins to disburse through local capillary action as soon as it is placed. Local effect in the target location is thus shorter than whole body removal.
