Phenol can be a very irritating substance. Injected near nerves/blood vessels, it can cause inflammation. Over a relatively short time, (a couple of weeks) the pain should subside as the inflammation subsides. In the meantime, using ice packs, antiinflammatories such as Acetaminophen may help.
