A member asked:

R palpitations life threatening? had them for 6 consec days, on & off, seen doc for this but not diagnosis w/serious condition...had palp since teen, now 38

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Palpitations: They are often benign but can be serious if persistent and leading to sustained arrhythmia. Determination of your lv function with an echo is key as people with structurally abnormal hearts have more risk of a serious arrhythmia. Control of your caffeine and any stimulants such as decongestants or antihistamines is important in limiting your palpitations. Medication can help symptomatic pts.
