No, it is not true. Propranolol can rarely cause mild increase in blood potassium (mild hyperkalemia) but even when it happens it is not danger unless you have severely weak kidney function. You should not worry about your food intake when you take this medication if your kidney function is decent.

Very many patients who take propranolol eat bananas, not in huge quantities though, without incident. If you have normal kidney function, you should have no worries eating a banana. . The concern is with some patients who are prone to high potassium levels.due to kidney disease and/ or potassium retaining meds like ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers & diuretics like aldactone.
