A member asked:

What's the relationship between bmi and obstructive sleep apnea if you have an athletic build? i'm 5-8 and weigh 172 pounds, my bmi is overweight but i look athletic. will losing some muscle help the apnea?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Although there appears to be a relationship between sleep apnea and obesity, there does not appear to be huge effects if there is solely modest weight loss. "Losing some muscle" would certainly not be advised, as fitness appears generally to be healthy overall. There are several devices now available to control nocturnal sleep apnea, and best to pursue these avenues.
