A member asked:

Why isnt pelvic ultrasound part of womans yearly checkup? we do mammo and colonoscopy. wouldnt this be a great way to check for cancer?even without risk factors we do the other preventative tests. am post menopausal- is it worth requesting one?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pelvic ultrasound is usually done because of symptoms (pain, dysfunctional bleeding ) . Ovarian cancer is not screened successfully with U/S, and there is no reliable way to do U/S for other potential malignancies by pelvic U/S.
