A member asked:

Could a diuretic help with fluid build up in the middle ear?

If the ear drum ( middle ear) is swollen or if fluid penetrates it through a perforation, a diuretic will not remove the swelling.or fluid accumulation. Also fluid accumulation in the external ear canal will not be.mibilized by a diuretic.

No , using a diuretic for an ear effusion is a bad idea. The dehydration and electrolyte imbalance created by the diuretic will only exacerbate the illness that brought on the ear problem, which is usually a virus that runs its course without intervention. It will not help your ear to drain. However, if you develop pain and fever from a secondary bacterial infection, you may need an antibiotic

Your scenario, if correct needs an ENT doc. Self diagnosis and speclative self treatment is mostly wrong and can be dangerous
