No , using a diuretic for an ear effusion is a bad idea. The dehydration and electrolyte imbalance created by the diuretic will only exacerbate the illness that brought on the ear problem, which is usually a virus that runs its course without intervention. It will not help your ear to drain. However, if you develop pain and fever from a secondary bacterial infection, you may need an antibiotic
