Hepatitis C is transmitted through bloodstream to bloodstream transmission, usually in individuals using non-sterile needles for injection of opiates or medications such as ketamine for example. Fortunately , there are antiviral medications which can provide a cure, reducing the evolution of Hep C to causing liver cancer.

Hepatitis C cannot be transmitted through above mentioned mechanism. Hand hygiene rules still apply as to risk for transmission for other bacteria including hepatitis A.
