What types of iv meds might b given in the er for a 3+ day migraine with no relief frm otc meds?

Opiates, antiemetics: Depends on the ed. Toradol and tramadol are often used. Some will use opiates like hydrocodone, though some eds avoid these. Iv Compazine (prochlorperazine) (anti nausea with effectiveness against migraine) can help. Ergots, older migraine meds, can be given but require more intensive monitoring and in some hospitals require admission.

IV migraine cocktail: This sounds like status migrainosus. Most er docs and neurologists give cocktail of IV meds. Some of the more common meds include: IV reglan, (metoclopramide) IV toradol, IV solu-medrol, and IV magnesium. Most try to avoid narcotics. There are also prescription migraine medications you can try when your headache first starts to try to avoid and er trip all together. Talk to your neurologist.

Many: Usually cocktail of medicines are given, from ergot derivatives to narcotics like Dilaudid etc .Along with other medicines.
