HSV is a virus , and is not "cured" as it is attached to the nucleus of cells, and can be treated with antivirals if there is an outbreak of a symptomatic HSV ulcer, orally or genitally.

Excellent and insightful question. Little progress has been made on vaccines to prevent infection with the herpes simplex viruses (HSV1 or 2), but there is active research underway on vaccines that might improve established infection (e.g. reduced outbreak frequency or viral shedding). Even that research is in early stages and hard to predict success. Nothing is on the horizon in near future.
