A member asked:

My 11 year old daughter has chronic hives for 8 weeks. otherwise healthy and no other symptoms. bloodwork done to see if any clues popped up and platelets came back high at 481(normal 140-400)concerning? we were referred to allergist. waiting for apt?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The cause of chronic hives can be very elusive. Try to think of any possible triggers such as exercise, heat, hot water, combination of eating and then exercise. The allergist will order appropriate testing and recommend treatment. The elevated platelet count may be part of the allergic reaction & should improve along with improvement in chronic urticaria. If not, hematology consultation is indicat
