What does this mean on a pathology report. there is distortion / crush artifact of cells, limiting adequate cytological evaluation. cytological features are not clearly appreciated due to distortion / crush artifact?

translation= after reviewing the sample the only meaningful conclusion is that the quality is too poor to interpret. This is usually followed by wording asking for a new sample.

Simply, your specimen was either handled improperly, at some point, or was not delivered in a timely fashion. Either way, a new tissue sample must be submitted for a reliable interpretation.
