Pain in the left chest, arm pit and arm is of concern and merits an urgent evaluation by one's doctor, urgent care center or hospital emergency department. A rapid interview, EKG, and possible X-rays and blood tests can determine the cause of the pain. Possible causes include coronary artery disease, including a heart attack, lung problems including a pulmonary embolism, and local arm issues.

Left chest pain with above characteristics is typically evaluated in the closest ER as a heart attack has to be ruled out/in first and addressed timely. Follow up is usually needed in case life threatening conditions are ruled out and further work up is needed. Musculoskeletal conditions are typically hard to diagnose as the focus on imaging studies is on ruling out life threatening conditions
