A member asked:

Are beta blockers safe if you have obstructive sleep apnea? what hypertensive meds are best to reduce severity of osa symptoms (spikes in bp and persistent elevated bp due to hypoxia during sleep)? thanks?

Most pertinent issue involves control of nocturnal sleep apnea, and key to prove diagnosis via an overnight sleep study. If confirmed, a C-PAP unit should be employed, as this alone could control the blood pressure and hypoxia issues. Would avoid beta blockers if you have a history of wheezing or asthma. Certainly have a pulmonary or sleep specialist involved in your care.
