Can trazadone lose its effectiveness for sleep over time?

Tolerance can build up and it can lose its efficacy in helping insomnia over time. It's important to note that only small doses are recommended as a sleep aid and I wouldn't recommend increasing trazodone substantially as a sleep aid. You should discuss this issue with your prescribing physician, however as he/she knows you best.

It is rather common to develop tolerance to prescription and OTC sleep medications over time, and is yet another reason to find alternative ways to handle sleep disorders. Highly urge you to participate in a full-scale sleep hygiene program. Consider a virtual consult here at HT, and get this more thoroughly handled (www.connect@healthtap.com)
