A member asked:

I had methotrexate for an ectopic pregnancy 4 weeks ago and as of monday my hcg level was at 96. it is now thursday and i have started my period. is it normal to start your period before the hcg level gets to 0?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The use of methotrexate to abort an "ectopic pregnancy" is not 100%, so a positive HCG level (96) "four weeks" after methotrexate, may indicate an incomplete termination of the pregnancy. Obtain a repeat HCG level and see your GYN physician for an exam and additional testing (ultrasound) , as further treatment may be necessary.
