If you have a case of dry eye syndrome you'd have dry eyes during the day as well. Because we don't blink during sleep it's not uncommon to have dry eyes for a period after awakening. If your eyes are exposed to very bright lights & you have computer strain at work, you can develop those symptoms you're describing. Consult an ophthalmologist to get the best advice.

Blepharitis (eyelid inflammation or infection) is a very common cause of dry eye symptoms, and often complicates cases of true dry eye. If the eyelid is sore as described, there is like some degree of blepharitis contributing. Often this has to be treated with an antibiotic ophthalmic ointment (prescription), but you can try using warm compressing in the AM and an OTC gel drop at night.
