A member asked:

I had hepatitis a virus which got resolved in 2 months. i've been told that it's highly unlikely it will lead to a permanent liver damage as the virus is already eliminated. does unlikely mean that although there's a chance but it's a very slim one?

Hepatitis A does not cause chronic infection. In a severe infection, some scarring may be a residual effect. It is not feasible to say that there is no chance of any damage, but it is far more likely that your liver has returned to its pre-infection state than otherwise. Get vaccination for Hepatitis B.

In the described circumstances, unlikely means there are more chances not to suffer permanent liver damage, with the understanding that the opposite can always happen. Short to medium term follow up will help in clarifying.
