If lymph node swelling is caused by cancer is it because the lymph node has cancer and is swollen or is it because your body is trying to fight the cancer and is swelling as a result of that if you know what i mean i don't really know how to word it?

The enlargement of a lymph node with metastatic cancer is mostly from the growth of the tumor cells. You can reduce your risk of cancer by adopting healthy habits: Eat a mostly vegetarian diet, avoid alcohol, tobacco and street drugs, avoid excessive exposure to sun, maintain healthy weight, get HPV vaccine, exercise 30 minutes each day, drink enough water so your urine is mostly colorless.
