Is there any way to help stop antibiotic associated diarrhea? i was given a short course (1 week) antibiotics and i usually have stomach issues with them. also i worry about c. diff and antibiotic resistance. how common is it if it's a short course?

Taking probiotics would help restore your healthy gut bacteria. Your pharmacist can recommend a brand as you inform him/her why you're advised to take them. I don't think you should worry about creating antibiotic resistance. C. Diff.is.more.of a problem for people who are hospitalized or who have recently been in the hospital. Other strong points are your youth and no immunocompromise status

It is uncommon unless you have frequently used antibiotic in the past, one week use at times can cause C. diff colitis, especially with certain high risk antibiotic such as clindamycin, ciprofloxacin, etc. Some antibiotic such as augmentin can cause loose stool but it is not C. diff colitis. You may lower the risk by taking probiotic. PPI such as omeprazole, nexium, etc. increases the risk.
