A member asked:

My question is about a pinched nerve. is there any known cases of one causing the skin to get red? or have slight itchiness along with the stabbing pins sensation? this pinched nerve is in my middle lower back?

Pinched nerves are not usually accompanied by skin involvement. If you have had chicken pox as a kid, i would be more concerned about shingles. This can cause stabbing pain involving the skin even before you see the rash.

Would certainly agree with my colleague that most nerve problems are not accompanied by skin changes, but a direct exam to assess the area of your complaints would be vital to uncover what is occurring. Not feasible to do more than wonder about shingles until further evaluated.
