Pepto bismol is not recommended for use during pregnancy for the treatment of dyspepsia. There is a substance similar to aspirin in it that is known to cause birth defects. First line treatments for GI upset include ginger, vitamin B12, and doxylamine. Prescription medications include Zofran for nausea and vomiting. Acid reducers include Prilosec and Nexium
