A member asked:

My husband was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis 2 years ago, nothing seems to help him, we won't see a doctor until september, is it safe for him to take expectorants to be able to get rid of the mucus?

Why does he have chronic bronchitis may be more important to explore. Does he smoke or hang around people that smoke or does it work around much dust? Eliminating the dust or cause may be important, and there are medications/inhalers available to help if he has shortness of breadth. You could look to see a doctor sooner and good fluid intake is better for easier expectoration.

The cause of the chronic bronchitis should be evaluated. Imaging and sputum analysis may be ordered by your primary physician. Chronic infections such as TB should be considered. Other measures such as airway clearance devices, chest physiotherapy abd exercise are often effective. The prescription for inhalers used to treat asthma should be considered. Avoid smoke and other triggers of cough.
