This is treatable: You showed a lot of courage writing to healthtap about this. And you have insight ad want to change. What you describe is quite common, a trick that our brain plays on us that we can reprogram working together. There are some tricks and patterns of thinking that you can relearn. If ur physician knows his/her stuff, getting you referred (perhaps for cognitive-behavioral rx) should be easy. Courage!

Cancer screening: From a medical standpoint, one thing you can do if concerned about cancer is to undergo age appropriate screening. This can be completed by your dr during the physical exam. At the same time your doctor will obtain more information from you such as risk factors & family history which may help him decide if any additional testing is indicated. If still "constantly concerned" see a psych doctor.

Treat your anxiety: It sounds like you may suffer from anxiety. This causes people to focus on worries to the point that they become incapacitating. You should consider seeing a mental health therapist or counselor, who can help you learn techniques to stop this constant worrying. Certain medications may help. And remember that most of what we worry about usually doesn't happen!
